  Compiled & curated list of area gigs by local and touring bands and djs by Steve Kiviat.  List is edited and updated frequently (gigs @ Bossa and go-go shows are often just announced the week of the show);  Work your way down day by day. 

Calendar is posted, updated, and viewable here on the blog, and events listings are posted on my Bluesky and Threads & sometimes still tweeted. Gig list includes international (mainly African, Caribbean, Latin, Brazilian, Asian), roots, rap, soul, go-go, rock, punk, pop, gospel, blues, & club dj dance and more DMV & Baltimore & Annapolis gigs that I am interested in.  Lots of local Ethiopian and Go-go. Some jazz but I mainly leave that to Capital Bop. Also some movies w/ music themes, and music book events.  Additional gigs added after first posting have an *asterisk.*  Events listed have been found on websites, Instagram, Facebook, email, postcards, flyers, tik-tok, & club voicemails.

Sat. Oct 4- A new exhibit in the Great Hall of the D.C. library, “D.I.Y. in the District: Celebrating D.C.’s Artist-Run Spaces,” officially opens Saturday.  A slideshow and conversation about “D.I.Y. Arts Venues in Downtown D.C.” with Bill Warrell, the founder of D.C. Space, which was open from 1977 to 1991, and co-owner of the original 9:30 Club; artist Cynthia Connolly, a program manager at D.C. Space; and musician and broadcaster Bob Boilen, the founder of Tiny Desk Concerts takes place 3 to 4  @ MLK . Additional events put together by Rhizome take place Occt 18 & 19th

Oct 9 -2024 Quique Aviles & Ellie Walton directed film “Las Muertes Mas Bellas Del Mundo/ The Most Beautiful Deaths in the World “ @ 6pm @ MLK Library (is about DC based Salvadoran artists and how they deal with the trauma of ‘70s-80s Salvadoran Civil War and life in DC . It conveys this through both traditional means — old tv footage & news clippings- and artsy and effective acted out performances and poetry) .
