Enkutatash, the Ethiopian New Year and harvest celebration.  As part of the 5 x 5 Festival, NY’s Jace Clayton (aka DJ Rupture) is presenting “Enkutatash,”   a public choral piece he created using a musical score based on the daily 2002 to 2011  Homeland Security  5 level color-coded  terrorism threat alerts that he has converted to notes on the Ethiopian five note pentatonicl scale.  At the same time  locally based Ethiopian  masinqo (one-stringed fiddle/lute) player Gezachew T. Habtemariam and  vocalist  Kalkidan Woldemariam will be performing an adapted version of an East African harvest song.  Audience members are invited to sing along by following the displayed color flags. Clayton will add laptop tweaks .Afterwards Ethiopian food will be offered and the House of Booty djs will take over.
