 4/4 (Live Performance) Curated By: Pleasant Plains Workshop and The General Store, Inc. for free from 7:00pm-9:00pm, Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Library's Loggia (outside).  This two-hour event will showcase DC artists, DJ’s, dancers and pioneers in both the DC House Music scene and the Hand Dancing tradition. The show will be part educational, part dance party. The evening will feature presentations from veteran House DJ, Sam the Man Burns, House music singer, Tamara Wellons, as well as the Smooth and Easy Hand Dance Institute, and local dance troupe, Urban Artistry. Attendees will learn the history of the genres and be invited to participate in a dance-a-thon that combines both styles and cultures. Grammy nominated artist and producer Kokayi will cohost with Kristina Bilonick of Pleasant Plains Workshop.

Presentation on Alan Lomax for free from 12 to 1pm at the Library of Congress Whittall Pavilion, Jefferson Bldg.: Nathan Salsburg, curator of the Alan Lomax Archive at the Association for Cultural Equity (ACE), will explore two key undertakings from Lomax's career—namely his 1959 "Southern Journey" field-recording trip and its later ancillary, the American Patchwork video recording project (1978­-1985)—and argue that Lomax's technological, curatorial, and promotional savvy were fundamental to the success of his mission.
